Several travellers were feared abducted after bandits blocked Sokoto-Gusau road on Sunday.
The bandits were said to have blocked the popular Dogon-awo which was between Bimasa in Tureta local government area of Sokoto State and Lambar Bakura in Zamfara state.
It was said that the bandits operated for hours before the military and police cleared the road.
A village head of one of the communities along the area told our reporter that the assailants abducted many travelers.
According to him, they blocked the road around noon.
A motorist told our reporter that they had to park at Lambar Tureta until a combined team of security personnel cleared the road before they proceeded to Sokoto.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE learnt that 12 persons were killed in the Sokoto village of Maikujera in Rabah local government area last Thursday.
It would be recalled that bandits killed 19 vigilantes were killed in the same local government last month.
Spokesman of Sokoto police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar confirmed the attack on the village but he was not aware of the highway blockage.
