Residents of Geidam in Yobe State on Saturday said the military and Boko Haram fighters are still in gun battle over control of the town.
This is contrary to the earlier claim by the military that it has repelled the terrorists during the Friday attack on the town.
The terrorists, according to sources, have cut off the town from all networks after destroying all the telecommunications masts.
Some of the residents who spoke to 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE said they are still in hiding as a result of troops raging battle with the insurgents.
A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the terrorists have taken over Hausari Primary School in Gaidam as their operational base.
A another source said a group of Boko Haram fighters have moved to the Fulatari area of Gaidam town.
A local vigilante told our correspondent that, scores of Boko Haram fighters had been killed, but added that innocent civilians too could be among the casualties.
He said a military artillery fired in the direction of the insurgents hit a residential building, causing an unspecified number of casualty.
A member representing Gaidam, Bursari and Yunusari, Federal Constutuency, Lawan Shettima, appealed to the Federal Government to deploy more troops, policemen, civil defence, as well as other security agencies with enough vehicles and weapons to protect lives and property in the affected areas.
“How many solders do we have? What are they doing? They cannot protect our lives and property, our people are suffering with no where to go,” he said.
