Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot before Mason Greenwood doubled Manchester United’s lead, then Edinson Cavani secured the three points with a close-range header before Ollie Watkins saw red for the Villains in the closing stages.
United is next in action against Leicester City at home on Tuesday, while Villa takes on Everton in its next outing on Thursday at Villa Park.
