The Police in Zamfara State have arrested a suspected gun runner in possession of over 100 cache of live ammunition on Friday around Yankara on the border with Katsina State.
Both Zamfara and Katsina States have for over a decade suffered from repeated attacks carried out by bandits.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Yazid Abubakar in a statement said command is determined to dismantle criminal networks in the state.
The suspect, 30 year old Umar Sani, was arrested by the police following an intelligence tip off.

“On 17th April, 2026, at about 0720 hrs vigilant Police operatives deployed at a strategic checkpoint along the Zamfara–Katsina border (Yankara axis) acted on credible intelligence and intercepted a suspicious individual during a routine stop-and-search operation,” Yazid Abubakar said.
The suspect was arrested while riding a motorcycle from Abuja to Magami in Zamfara on a road that’s known to be one of the most vulnerable in the country
“A meticulous search of the motorcycle led to the shocking discovery of one hundred (100) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition of AK-47 rifles, ingeniously concealed within the fuel tank of the motorcycle.
“This arrest underscores the Command’s proactive approach and unwavering resolve to disrupt the supply chain of illegal arms and ammunition, which fuels criminality in the state,” he added.
The arrest came two days after operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) arrested a bandits’ collaborator with N13,352,00 and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on his way to deliver to bandits in Maru area.
