Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said he was not a mole for President Bola Tinubu to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a view to destroying it.
The governor spoke in company of Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, the new national Chairman, Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and new National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja at the Wadata secretariat of the party on Tuesday in Abuja
Makinde who made the denial in the heat of ongoing clash between the factions loyal to the new national Working Committee of the party and that of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said a message of hope to PDP members and Nigerians was not about the party but the future of democracy and Nigeria.
On the allegations made in some quarters that he was working secretly for President Bola Tinubu to destroy the PDP, the governor went philosophical saying small minds discuss people, great minds discuss ideas, insisting that “the ongoing crisis is not just about the PDP, but about the future of democracy and Nigeria.
“I don’t want to talk about people, I want to talk about issues” Makinde said, and refused to make further comments on the matter.
He said the crisis is “a case of getting worse before getting better.”
Makinde said “we don’t believe in a one-party state,” and vowed that the Turaki-led leadership had come to stay. “If we have to stay here for two weeks, we will do so to ensure we get what we want.”
