Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, his Delta and Abia states counterparts, Ifeanyi Okowa and Okezie Ikpeazu Tuesday stormed Awka for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship grand rally in Anambra State.
Also present at the rally which was held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka,
is Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu.
However, the newly elected national chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu and top leaders such as former vice president Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki were absent.
Speaking during the rally, Governor Ikpeazu who is the Chairman of PDP National Campaign Council for Anambra Governorship election, urged the people of the state to come out and vote for PDP and it’s candidate on Saturday.
He said the party is poised to retake the power it lost during the 2015 general elections, adding that Anambra is a test case for actualising the vision.
Also, Okowa said PDP has sent the signal going by the outcome of its just-concluded national convention that it’s on a rescue mission.
He said, “You are all aware that the National Convention of the PDP took place on Saturday in Abuja, and with it, the PDP has sent a clear message across the country that we are ready to take back our nation.
“As PDP is planning to take back the nation and we shall surely do that, Anambra people – the men, the women, the youths – must first take back Anambra state.
“Therefore, you must be the front runners because when you take back Abambra state you have given us the momentum to take back the nation.
“I plead with Anambra youths, women and elders, the primaries have come and gone. It’s now time for us to unite, a time to commit everything within us to win this election.
“It’s time for us to believe in ourselves; it’s a time for us to rebuild Anambra and rebuilding Anambra means that we must bring in PDP back to the governance of Anambra, and doing so, you have done yourself a lot of good.”
