Gunmen have kidnapped the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Bright Abeke thus raising fear and tension in the town
Aneke was whisked away at about 7 pm on Friday evening when the bandits invaded a hotel on Owumi Road Sapele.
Aneke was taken away in the midst of heavy gun battle by the attackers numbering about 15.
They had arrived the hotel in a Range Rover SUV and two other vehicles, shooting sporadically to scare residents and guests away.
On their arrival, the abductors went straight to their target, and forcefully took him to an unknown destination.
A local vigilante group, simply identified as Ufuoma, was shot in the attack and has reportedly been rushed to a nearby hospital, though his condition could not be confirmed as of press time.
The Delta State Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe has confirmed the development, adding that the Command was making efforts to rescue Abeke
Security operatives had since blocked major entry and exit points in Sapele as efforts were being intensified to rescue the abducted chairman.
Edafe said “the CP has ordered that the command special anti kidnapping unit deploy their arsenals to ensure that he is rescued unhurt and the suspects arrested.”
