Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has said that the university lecturer Dr Nasa’i Gwadabe involved in an alleged sexual harassment scandal is not with the university.
It said Mr Gwadabe served as a visiting lecturer in the university for one year and his appointment was not renewed after its expiration.
The university revealed this on Friday in a statement signed by its management.
It said contrary to social media claims, neither the student nor the lecturer are with the school.
The management said claims that the alleged victim was a post-graduate student of the university was not true as MAAUN has not commence its post-graduate programmes.

The management wishes to clarify recent reports circulating on social media regarding Dr. Nasa’i Gwadabe of North West University, Kano, who previously served as a Visiting Lecturer at the university. His one-year appointment ended in May 2026 and was not renewed. He is therefore no longer affiliated with MAAUN.
For the avoidance of doubt, MAAUN engages Visiting Lecturers on one-year appointments, with renewal subject to satisfactory performance, institutional needs, and management approval. Following the conclusion of his appointment, Dr. Gwadabe’s contract was not renewed, as was the case with a number of other Visiting Lecturers.
The University maintains a zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment, abuse, and exploitation. This policy is widely communicated across the university community. As a further demonstration of this commitment, the Founder has instituted a reward of ₦5 million for any female student who reports and provides credible evidence of sexual harassment or assault by any lecturer or staff member through the appropriate channels.
The Management also wishes to correct other inaccurate claims circulating in connection with this matter. Contrary to some reports, no student was delayed for two years. Indeed, MAAUN only recently graduated its first cohort of students.
Similarly, claims that a postgraduate student was also a victim are inaccurate. The University has not yet commenced its postgraduate programmes. Accordingly, such claims are factually untenable.
The Management therefore urges members of the public and media organisations to report this matter accurately and to refrain from describing Dr. Nasa’i Gwadabe as a current member of staff of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, since his appointment with the University ended in May 2026 and was not renewed.
