House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Narcotic Drugs, Francis Ottah Agbo, said the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) should be armed with sophisticated weapons and communications gadgets to enhance anti-drugs wars.
Mr Agbo (Benue, PDP) also called for the construction of barracks nationwide for officers and men of the NDLEA to improve on their welfare and encourage them in the discharge of their duties.
He said this in a birthday message to the Chairman of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Muhammadu Buba Marwa, who clocks 68 years on Thursday.
The statement signed by his spokesperson, Andrew Agbese, the legislator advised Marwa to lobby both the executive and legislative arms to make financial provisions in this year’s budget towards providing sophisticated weapons and construction of the barracks for the NDLEA operatives.
The lawmaker who noted that the war against narcotics and drugs was far from being over, said that the agency was dead, adding that Marwa has not only resurrected it, but recorded an enviable feat within a short time.
He assured Marwa of his continuous partnership and urged him to consolidate on his robust relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to mainstream the war against drug abuse in Nigeria.
“On behalf of my family, the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs and the long suffering people of Ado/ Ogbadibo/ Okpokwu Federal Constituency, I wish you radiant health, divine favour and greater success in the years ahead,” he said.
