Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday congratulated the former Lagos Governor Ahmed Bola Tinubu on his victory as the APC presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu polled 1,271 to defeat Lawan (152), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (253), Rotimi Amaechi (316), among others.
In a message he personally signed, Lawan expressed satisfaction with the election process, saying by winning, Tinubu was the popular choice of his party.
Lawan said, “I am elated and proud that the Presidential primary was manifestly free and fair, and conducted within our APC Family under a most convivial atmosphere,” Lawan said, adding that “the success of the event again demonstrates the capacity of our great party to run its internal affairs smoothly and devoid of rancour.”
Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, in his message, expressed optimism that Tinubu would emerge victorious in next year’s presidential election.
Omo-Agege praised President Muhammadu Buhari and the governing APC for giving all aspirants a level-playing field, and urged Tinubu to be magnanimous in victory.
He saidi, “With the transparent process that saw the emergence of Asiwaju Tinubu as our party standard bearer, I am confident more than ever before that this is the beginning of even greater tidings for our party.”
In his message, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun said the emergence of Tinubu was as a result of his influence and acceptability, not only within the APC but across the length and breadth of the country.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, noted that the emergence of Tinubu in the hitch-free electoral process was a clear indication that the country was on the verge of democratic rejuvenation.
Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has called for reconciliation among party members which must commence immediately. stating that it was time to work for the victory of the party.
Akeredolu revealed this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, on Wednesday.
He said, “I congratulate our great party on the conduct of a successful primary election. I am particularly happy that our party displayed a total commitment to the ethos of democracy and embraced the path of fairness and equity.”
