Lakurawa bandits have killed 11 people in coordinated attacks in some villages in Arewa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State
The state Public spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, stated this in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
But other reports had it that 13 villagers were killed in what they said was a reprisal attack on Sunday following the killing of their leader Maigemau on Thursday last week.
According to a local in the state, Musa Gado, eight villages were razed down, adding that “the attackers spared only one village that was guarded by the soldiers. We seek protection from Allah against this dreaded group.”
Another local, Suleiman Abubakar, whose brother was killed in the attack, revealed that the terrorists group stormed their community at night, after the magrib prayer.
“It was a terrible situation for us. They killed many of our people and burnt some of them with their houses. No one was spared, women and children were attacked,” he said.
The Chairman of Arewa Local Government, Sani Aliyu, who confirmed the attack, said security operatives have been deployed to the affected communities while government is still assessing the situation.
The police spokesperson Abubakar said the bandits, clutching sophisticated weapons came in a large number and invaded Dogon Daji, Danmarke, Yar Goru, Tambo, Birnin Debi, Garin Nagoro and Garin Rugga villages in Arewa LGA and are border communities between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
He said two others were wounded by gunshot, adding that “the suspected bandits also set ablaze some houses at the affected villages.”
Abubakar said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, condemned the unfortunate incident and instantly reviewed the security architecture of the area by deploying additional teams.
“He charged them to decisively deal with suspected Lakurawa bandits operating in the area.
“The CP also had a meeting with critical stakeholders in the area, where he commiserated with them, and appealed to them to always assist the Police and other security agencies with relevant and timely information for prompt response.”
