Suspected lakurawa have reportedly killed 20 persons at Kwalajiya village in Tangaza local government area of Sokoto after three of their members were killed in a failed attack launched earlier.
Both the local government authorities and the Police have confirmed the attack to our reporter which they said occured around 2pm on Tuesday.
A resident of the area said the assailants invaded the community while the locals were in the mosque for Zuhr prayer.
“We were in the mosque praying Zuhr prayer when they invaded our village in numbers.
“They shot people at sight including the worshippers and the residents working on their farms at the time.
“They killed about 20 persons. Security operatives, the chairman of the local government area and some of his lieutenants are currently in the village to attend their burial which is taking place today (Wednesday),” he said
He noted that this was the first attack on the community by Lakurawa.
“I believe it is a reprisal attack as three of their members, one of which was identified as one of their leaders were killed in a failed earlier attack on the community,” the source added.
“We want the government to do something before these people annihilate our people and take toral control of our communities,” he said
The spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufa’i confirmed the attack but the number of death were yet as retained.
The chairman of the council, Isa Salihu Kalenjeni confirmed 15 dead which he said were buried on Wednesday.
