A Lagos-based medical doctor, Oyeyinka Oyetunde is being prosecuted before an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos State, for alleged involuntary manslaughter of a patient.
The prosecuting counsel, Tola Esan, said Oyetunde committed the offence on June 16, 2020, on 1, Ajibade Oke Street, Isolo, Ikeja, Lagos.
Esan said the doctor failed to care for the patient, identified only as Uchenna, adding that the offence contravened Section 229 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
Oyetunde has denied the allegation, as he pleaded not guilty.
His defence counsel, Abayomi Omotunbora, applied for his bail and urged the court to allow his client to continue the administrative bail granted by Chief Magistrate G.O. Abayomi, of an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court.
Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe granted the request, noting that the defendant was not a flight risk going by his antecedents.
The court allowed him to continue on his bail with a condition to provide the evidence for which he was granted the bail not later than seven days from Tuesday.
The case was adjourned till December 19, 2022
