The scheduled meeting between the federal government and the organised labour did not hold as leaders of both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) shunned the meeting.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, called the meeting to find a way to abort the strike. The meeting with Labour leaders was to hold at the Presidet ntial Villa, Abuja, by 3pm on Friday but could not hold because the labour side did not show up.
Both Lalong and Gbaja were in the Chief of Staff office for the meeting, but the labour leaders were not seen as of 5:30pm.
Daily Trust reports that the meeting had been shifted to the weekend, without fixing a particular day and time.
The organised Labour had issued a notice on Tuesday September 26 that it would be start an indefinite industrial action, nationwide, from Tuesday, October 3, 2023, to protest the harsh economic being experienced in the country, due to the removal of fuel subsidy.
