Kwankwasiyya Movement is said to be under threat as its leader and former Kano State Governor Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso is said to be making a move to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
A source close to the state PDP leadership revealed that many of the party executives are in serious consultations on ways to oppose Kwankwaso’s move to dump the party.
Many others, on the other hand, have already made their intention known that they will follow Kwankwaso to his new found political party.
The development is seen as a threat to what was known to be one of the strong movements in recent Kano’s political history.
A source closer to the state party chairman Shehu Wada Sagagi, said the state party leadership is not in support of Kwankwaso’s move and that the leadership is ready to remain in PDP even if Kwankwaso finally decides to leave the party for NNPP as speculated.
“Ever since the rumours that Senator Kwankwaso is planning to decamp to another party, the Kano state leadership of PDP wasn’t consulted and therefore the leadership had held several meetings with stakeholders and some notable party members. Indeed Kwankwaso’s decamping is not a good omen and will no doubt affect the party negatively, the party leadership and many others will not follow him,” the source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE.
Stakeholders in the Kwankwasiyya such as Dr Dangwani, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, among others have refused to comment on the issue.
It could be recalled that Kwankwaso had confirmed to BBC Hausa that he will decamp to NNPP before the end of March.
His confirmation has put to an end the rumour that the Kwankwasiyya movement leader will dump PDP.
