Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), two months after his suspension from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Jibrin’s defection marks a major political shift in Kano’s landscape, coming after weeks of speculation about his next move following his expulsion from the NNPP over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of party dues.
Announcing his decision on Monday via his verified social media handles, Jibrin revealed that his supporters had unanimously agreed to leave the NNPP and join the APC during a large gathering in his hometown of Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.
“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in Kofa, Bebeji. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, to join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
“Earlier, about 2,000 Ulamas from my constituency offered special prayers for the President and for peaceful coexistence, progress, and development of Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria at large.
“I decided to bring this crowd to correct my earlier mistake. I don’t want anyone to say I don’t have supporters,” he declared to loud cheers.
He then asked the crowd whether they had agreed to leave the NNPP and join the APC, to which they shouted “APC,” before reaffirming their support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
