Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), says he will provide women and youth a significant voice and increase their capacity to participate in a climate-smart economy if elected.
He stated this stated on Tuesday at the University of Abuja’s Presidential Town Hall Meeting on Climate Change and Environmental Concerns.
“2023 General Elections and the Quest for a Greener Nigeria” was the event’s theme. The Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), Corporate Accountability and Popular Participation Africa (CAPPA), and We The People collaborated to organize it (WTP).
The NNPP presidential candidate promised to empower communities through creating resilient infrastructures, according to the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Rufai Alkali.
In addition, Kwankwaso stated, “We will advance adaptive capability, enhance livelihoods and well-being, and achieve low-emission and sustainable economic growth.”
Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (ACC), who was also speaking, declared that if elected during the presidential election on February 25, he will abandon the usage of fossil fuels.
According to Sowore, his administration would make sure that those responsible for tree cutting, gas flare-ups, ozone layer-damaging pollution, and earth destruction paid damages.
Additionally, Mr. Adebayo Adeoye, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) presidential candidate, declared that he would uphold Section 20 of the Nigerian Constitution, which lists environmental conservation as one of the essential goals and guiding principles of public policy.
