The kidnapped Chairman of Akwanga Local Area of Nasarawa State, Safiyanu Isah Andaha, has been released.
The spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel revealed this on Tuesday in Lafia.
The local government chairman and three others were abducted by gunmen at about 8:30 p.m., in Ningo village, Akwanga LGA.
An anonymous close associate to the chairman revealed that “the sum of N10 million was paid as ransom, adding that “they were released on Tuesday night around 9pm behind a filling station on Bayan Dutse road.”
The associate said Andaha was humiliated by his captives who kidnapped them on Akwanga-Andaha road at a spot on the outskirt of Andaha on Monday night.
After their release, Andaha and the other three victims were within a few minutes taken to a Customs house in Andaha where they were later, accompanied by asome heavy security operatives to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Keffi for medical attention.
Nansel said the chairman and the three others were released in Andaha village, Akwanga after sustained pressure from the combined security agencies.
The police spokesperson, however, denied that ransom was paid to secure the release of the chairman and other victims.
He said upon receipt of information about the incident on Monday night, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, immediately deployed a team, whose effort in collaboration with other sister agencies had paid off with the release of the victims unhurt.
Nansel said the victims would be reunited with their families after receiving medical attention.
