The abductors of the paramount ruler of Gindiri town in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Mr Charles Mato Dakat, have demanded N50 million ransom for his release.
Dakat was kidnapped at his residence on Christmas eve, after sporadic gunshots.
A palace source, who pleaded anonymity, said the abductors spoke with some members through the monarch’s phone for five minutes.
“We were able to communicate with them. It was the paramount ruler who first called and spoke to us,” he said.
“Thereafter, the abductors talked to us using the paramount ruler’s telephone. They told us that the paramount ruler is being treated well and is okay and that they don’t have the intention of harming him.
“They said all they were demanding was the sum of N50 million for his release. That is all I can tell you for now.
“They also called on Tuesday, where the family negotiated the ransom to N30 million, with a promise to get back.
“As I speak, we are still waiting to hear from them.”
