Mr Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has announced plans to appoint airport marshals to improve service delivery and maintain environmental cleanliness at Nigerian airports.
This is contained in in a statement signed by Mr Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development on Thursday in Abuja.
Keyamo said the initiative aimed to address the expectations of the traveling public and enhance the overall airport experience.
According to Keyamo, the airport marshals will comprise public-spirited individuals from various backgrounds, including the media, non-governmental organisations, and state governments.
“These marshals will conduct unscheduled visits to airports, monitoring staff conduct and assessing the general hygiene and conditions of the facilities.”
The minister emphasised that the marshals would report directly to him, enabling him to issue necessary directives to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) based on their findings.
“This initiative will introduce an additional layer of transparent supervision, ensuring that airport managers are held accountable for their responsibilities.”
Keyamo also announced plans to conduct unscheduled monthly inspections of airports nationwide, accompanied by key stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the Managing Director of FAAN, and members of the Senate and House Committees on Aviation.
“During these visits, the minister will engage with airport staff, addressing their concerns and encouraging them to uphold professionalism and provide courteous service to the public.”
