A 300 -level student of Sociology department at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina has consumed a bottle of hand sanitizer after her boyfriend jilted her.
Inside sources told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the lady, simply identified as Ummi, consumed a whole bottle of hand sanitizer and a locally made insecticide called pia pia.
Ummi is said to be from Kaduna state but has relatives in Katsina.
A female student, who craved anonymity said: “This night (Friday) he (boyfriend) came to the female hostel and told Ummi that it was over between them. We don’t exactly know what happened between them and I think even those in the same room with Ummi can’t exactly say what happened. She went back to the room and took the hand sanitizer and pia pia in protest of what he did to her.”
The boyfriend, whose name is yet to be identified, is also a student of the University.
Another source said immediately after the student consumed the substances, she started throwing up and fainted.
“Her roommates alerted the school authority and an ambulance was immediately brought to take her to the hospital,” she said.
Efforts to get the university’s reaction failed as known phone number of the spokesperson Abdulhamid Danjuma, was unavailable when contacted.
