Katsina State Government says it is monitoring reports of suspected cases of bird flu in Malumfashi local government area of the state.
The Special Adviser to the state governor on livestock and grazing, Dr. Lawal Usman Bagiwa, said this while fielding questions from journalists.
He urged poultry farmers in the state to report any strange disease for prompt intervention to avoid spread of bird flu.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had reported outreach of bird flu in eight states across the country, including states that neighbouring Katsina state.
Bagiwa urged poultry farmers to remain at alert and support government efforts to stop the spread of bird flu.
He said the state government had recently conducted animal vaccination as part of efforts to improve birds health condition.
Bagiwa also urges butchers to support government policy of ensuring that only healthy animals are slaughtered.
