The Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Mr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, has dragged a politician, Musa Muhammad to court, for alleged defamation of character and linking him with bandits in the state.
Both Mr. Inuwa and Muhammad hail from Danmusa local government, one of the insecurity worse hit areas.
Checks by this reporter showed that Mr. Inuwa had dragged Mr. Musa to Magistrate Court 3 for linking him with banditry.
Speaking to 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE outside the Magistrate Court 3, counsel to the respondent, Barrister Peter Israel, said the decision to drag Mr. Muhammad to court by the SSG was mischievous.
“We discussed with his team and we told him that our client didn’t do what he is suspecting him of doing.
“He (the SSG) alleged that he is in possession of an audio clip where our client (Musa) is telling a friend that Mustapha Inuwa knows those behind the current insecurity in the state.”
“It’s not video evidence and our client’s name was not mentioned, so how could anyone say it was him?,” he said.
Counsel to the SSG, Barrister Ernest Obunadike, didn’t speak to newsmen after the adjournment of the case.
The judge has adjourned the case to 27 this month for further hearing.
However, a director from the SGS office, who pleaded anonymity, told this reporter that the intention was to damage his boss’ reputation.
“The game for 2023 has begun and Mustapha is the one they are all afraid of. This man has not even said he would be contesting but they are already maligning him.”
Mr. Inuwa, who was in charge of the state security committee from 2015 to 2019, is one of Governor Aminu Masari’s closest associates and top aides.
