Sarkin Bai of Kano and district head of Dambatta, Alhaji Mukhtar Adnan, is dead.
He died on Friday at the age of 95.
He was the oldest district head in Kano state.
He was appointed in 1954 by Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi.
Alhaji Adnan was born in 1926.
He was appointed the first commissioner of education in Kano state in 1968.
He started his working career in the Kano Native Authority, where he served in various capacities before his elevation to the position of Sarkin Bai.
He was a member of the Federal House of Representatives during the First Republic.
He attended Dambatta Elementary School, Kano Middle School, and later Zaria Clerical School.
Adnan was the longest serving member of the Kano Emirate Council.
He served for 63 years as district head, councilor and kingmaker.
He participated in the selection process of four emirs: Sarkin Kano Muhammadu Inuwa (1963), Sarkin Kano Ado Bayero (1963), Sarkin Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II (2014), and Sarkin Kano Aminu Bayero in 2020.
