A Kano State High Court presided by Justice Nasir Saminu has ordered that Kano State Hisbah Board has no right to arrest, investigate or present before the court famous Tiktoker Murja Ibrahim Kunya.
The court added that the work of Hisba is to preach and that the arrest the board has been making was against the board’s mandate as it isn’t in their conduct regulations. The court had also struck out the suit against the Tiktoker before a Shari’a Court sitting at Kwana Hudu saying the act was against the law.
The presiding Judge also directed that the seized Tiktoker’s phone and her ATM card should be returned to her. The court also ordered the Tiktoker to pay the Nigerian Police and Dawanau Psychiatric Hospital the sum of N100, 000 each for failure to provide concrete evidence against them in the Tiktoker’s appeal filed before the court.
The presiding Judge also ordered the state Police commissioner to arrest the Tiktoker if she is found spreading content that goes contrary to religion and tradition.
Murja Kunya had filed an appeal before the state High Court on the Shariah court’s judgment against her after being presented before the Shariah court by the Hisba.
Murja started her engagement on social media as a hobby and later explored the sector more as a profession from which she earns a livelihood. Gradually, Murja became a household name on social media especially Tik Tok with the account name of Yagayagamen. She has been at the centre of many controversies that lead to her convictions severally in the state.
