The Kano State Government has unveiled plans to construct toll gates on seven major highways leading into the Kano metropolis to enhance security surveillance and strengthen the state’s socio-economic structure.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Housing Development, Adamu Abdullahi, and made available to journalists in Kano.
According to the statement the initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to improve monitoring of vehicles entering the city. It listed the routes for the project to include Daura Road, Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, Hadejia Road and Sa’adatu Rimi Road.
According to the statement, the Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, has formally handed over the seven sites to contractors, signaling the commencement of construction work.
Abdullahi explained that the toll gates would function as strategic control points to regulate and document vehicular movement into the state capital, thereby strengthening security at critical entry points.
“The state government has resolved to erect toll gates on major roads leading into Kano metropolis as part of efforts to enhance security and reinforce the socio-economic framework of the state,” the statement quoted the commissioner saying.
It further revealed that the
commissioner also charged contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications and ensure timely completion in line with agreed standards.
