A Kano teenager, Safiya Sani, has been remanded in prison for allegedly stealing a pair of gold earrings worth 420,000 belonging to her neighbour.
A Shari’a Court in Kano gave the order on Friday.
Sani who lives in Unguwar Dabai Quarters, Kano, is charged with theft.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The presiding judge, Malam Ismail Muhammed-Ahmed, adjourned the matter until August 9 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Abdullahi Wada told the court that the complainant, Saeeda Sadiq, who lives in Unguwar Dabai Quarters, Kano reported the matter at Rijiyar Zaki Police Station, Kano, on July 13.
Wada said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 133 of the Kano State Shari’a Law.
Mr Wada said the complainant discovered her pair of gold earrings worth N420, 000 were stolen from her room while she was sleeping.
Ms Sadiq said that the complainant said that the defendant was the only one in the compound when the earrings were stolen and strongly believed Sani stole it.
