The Kano State Judiciary Service has announced the suspension of two Sharia Court registrars, for allegedly being involved in fraudulent deals.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the spokesperson of the state judiciary Mr Baba Jibo Ibrahim. According to him the disciplinary actions were taken by the commission at its 75th meeting held on September 12th, 2024, adding that the stand taken by the judiciary followed the findings of an investigation carried out by a committee set up by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
“Sequel to the findings of the investigative committee set up by the JSC to investigate the petition against Jamilu Ibrahim and others, the investigation revealed that Jamilu Ibrahim along with a syndicate were found to have received illegal funds emanating from a writ of possession that was fraudulently obtained in order to sell two plots of land,” the statement revealed.
According to the statement, the committee had recommended that Jamilu Ibrahim should be dismissed from service, however, the Judicial Service Commission has suspended Jamilu Ibrahim indefinitely without pay pending the outcome of the trial he is facing before a Magistrate Court.
Another Registrar of the Upper Shari’a Court in person of Zubairu Sulaiman was also found to have received one million naira into his personal account as commission from the sale of the two plots of land. The statement explained that JSC acting upon the recommendation of the investigative committee has suspended Zubairu Sulaiman for four months without pay.
