Kano State Censorship Board has suspended all forms of traditional medicine advertisements in movies and all street vendors using loudspeakers across the state.
The decision is aimed at ensuring strict adherence to regulations and uphold professionalism among traditional medicine sellers and the Kannywood industry.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Abba El-Mustapha, said the suspension became obvious as most of the advertisement content aired on the streets using loudspeakers or featured in Hausa film series violates the Board’s guidelines, which require such content to be censored before public release.
In a press briefing in his office, El-Mustapha stressed that the law had empowered the Board to censor all advertisement content before it is released for public consumption in the state.
“All traditional medicine advertisers, producers, and film owners are hereby instructed to stop airing or streaming any advertisements on television or the internet until they have obtained legal licenses through proper censoring from the board.
Similarly, traditional medicine advertisers using loudspeakers on the streets or within films are directed to submit their advertisement content for censoring and licensing approval within one week starting from this week.
