Sixteen local government chairmen from Kano South have declared support for Kabiru Alhassan Rurum as their preferred candidate for the senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
This is in a move that signals growing discontent with incumbent lawmaker, Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila.
The endorsement followed a series of consultations involving council officials, party leaders, and legislators across the zone, culminating in a consensus to back Rurum, who currently represents the Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, as the party’s prepared aspirant.
According to the chairmen, the decision was reached in the spirit of unity, with a focus on preserving internal cohesion while positioning the party for electoral success in the district. They maintained that supporting Kabiru Alhassan Rurum would enhance solidarity and deliver more effective representation for Kano South at the national level.
Addressing newsmen in Kano to confirm their stand, Vice Chairman of Bebeji Local Government, Ali Sarkin Yaki, said the resolution was unanimous and driven by the need to safeguard the party’s chances in the forthcoming polls. He alleged that the current senator had failed to maintain a working relationship with grassroots leadership in the zone and that party members can’t risk to lose in 2027.
