Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, the member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing the worsening leadership tussle within the party.
In a resignation letter dated November 11, 2025, and addressed to the Chairperson of Zaitawa Ward in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Koki said his decision was guided by his constitutional right to freedom of association.
“By virtue of Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution, and other relevant laws, I hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective Tuesday, November 11, 2025,” the letter read in part.
The lawmaker noted that the ongoing internal wrangling at the national level had crippled the party’s operations, making it difficult for him to continue offering effective representation to his constituents.
“The crisis in the party leadership has made it nearly impossible for me to continue discharging my duties or to deliver the desired representation to the people of Kano Municipal,” Koki explained.
Elected under the NNPP platform in the 2023 general elections, Koki expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve, acknowledging the support and cooperation he enjoyed from members across all levels.
“I sincerely thank the party for giving me the platform to serve. The support, trust, and experience I gained while in the NNPP remain invaluable, and I will always be grateful,” he said.
As of press time, the lawmaker has not announced his next political destination or whether he plans to join another party.
However, his resignation is coming few days after his colleague Andulmumini JIBRIN Kofa officially announced that he had joined APC months after his expulsion from NNPP.
