The Kano State Police Command has announced the strict enforcement of the state government’s ban on carrying passengers on motorcycles and the restriction of commercial tricycle operations between 10:00pm and 6:00am daily.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the enforcement—carried out in collaboration with other security agencies—will cover nine Local Government Areas: Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido area), and Dawakin Kudu (Tambuwal, Gurjiya and Jido wards).
Kiyawa noted that the enforcement team has been mandated to apprehend individuals who violate the directive, as well as check the spread of unverified information capable of causing fear among the public.
According to the statement, the measures are aimed at strengthening public safety and curbing security threats across the affected areas. “Any person found operating motorcycles or tricycles in contravention of the ban or restriction will be promptly arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” it added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents to cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure peace and order in the state. He also encouraged the public to report violations or suspicious activities to nearby police stations or through the command’s emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
The command further disclosed that the enforcement operation is being carried out in partnership with the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) to guarantee total compliance for the safety of all residents.
