Stakeholders across Kano North Senatorial District have distanced themselves from the senatorial bid of former Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, arguing that his aspiration lacks genuine grassroots appeal and fails to reflect the wishes of the electorate.
Speaking under the umbrella of the Kano North Political Stakeholders Forum, the group said its position was reached after broad consultations and a careful review of political realities within the district.
The development follows Gwarzo’s recent declaration to contest for the Senate seat, a move that has triggered debate among political actors in the area.
In a statement endorsed by the forum’s chairman, Aliyu Abbas Gumawa Gabasawa, the stakeholders raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the declaration, noting that the event in Kano attracted a large number of attendees from outside the senatorial district.
They said this trend suggests a weak connection between the aspirant and constituents, insisting that representation must be rooted in local support and understanding of the people’s needs.
The forum also warned against rising external influence in Kano North politics, cautioning that any attempt to impose candidates from outside could erode unity, disrupt stability, and undermine democratic processes.
Reaffirming their stance, the stakeholders declared full support for the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, whom they described as experienced, dependable, and committed to service.
They highlighted his legislative achievements, accessibility to constituents, and role in national development as key factors that have secured him widespread backing across the district.
The group further urged political actors to respect the collective will of the people, warning against actions that could inflame tensions, and emphasizing that leadership choices should be guided by credibility, loyalty, and proven performance.
