The Kano State Censorship Board has taken swift action against a herbal medicine seller accused of using underage children in an advertisement containing inappropriate content.
The Board ordered the closure of the herbalist’s shop following several complaints it received.
Furthermore, the Executive Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, has summoned the herbal medicine seller, known as Nagwale, to appear before the Board to respond to the allegations against him.
The Director in charge of the Board’s Publications Department, Alhaji Zakari Garun Babba, said selling and promoting such medicines publicly, especially when it involves minors or indecent content, is an offence and may attract severe penalties under the law.
He said the suspect admitted to the offence and apologized to the people of Kano State.
However, as part of the Board’s disciplinary measures, Nagwale has been directed to issue formal apologies in writing, audio, and video formats, which will be kept as records for future reference.
The Board emphasized that it is its statutory responsibility to regulate the activities of traditional medicine practitioners, particularly in advertising, to ensure compliance with ethical standards, while reiterating its commitment to safeguarding public morality and protecting children from all forms of abuse.
