The Kano State government has announced that in its efforts to improve healthcare access for Kano’s less privileged populations, the State Governor has officially launched the Abba Care Initiative, enrolling over 300,000 vulnerable residents in a free health insurance program introduced in the state.
In a statement signed by the Director General of Media and Publicity at Kano Government House, Malam Sanusi Nature Dawakin Tofa, the scheme targets marginalized groups, including pregnant women, senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, inmates in correctional facilities, and those living with sickle cell anemia.
He said the initiative is fully funded and managed by the Kano State Contributory Health Management Agency (KCHMA) to provide free, quality healthcare services across designated facilities in the state.
The statement further revealed that the governor had described the program as a cornerstone of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing that access to healthcare is a fundamental right for all citizens.
The statement also explained that the Abba Care Initiative represents a major step toward achieving universal healthcare coverage in Kano, aiming to uplift the lives of thousands while fostering a healthier, more equitable society.
