The Kano State Government has clarified that Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II will preside over this year’s Eid-el-Fitr Durbar.
The government also said it rolled out firm measures to maintain peace and order throughout the festivities.
The decision, endorsed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, was based on security intelligence pointing to possible attempts by certain elements to disrupt the Sallah celebrations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to safeguard Kano’s rich cultural traditions, stressing that security considerations would take precedence.
The statement also outlined that the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be led by Emir Sanusi, commencing from the Kofar Mata Eid Ground along approved routes to Gidan Shettima, and concluding at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.
It further explained that Hawan Nasarawa would hold in a restricted format without the traditional horseback procession, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have been temporarily suspended in the interest of public safety.
According to the government, security agencies have been placed on high alert and directed to enforce compliance with all guidelines before, during and after the celebrations and also residents were advised to remain peaceful, abide by the law, and cooperate fully with security personnel, while also avoiding the spread of unverified information.
However, the statement is believed to be an outcome of last night’s meeting between three man government’ s delegations and Emir Sanusi II at the Gidan Dabo palace.
Already news had filtered out that the state government is taking side with Emir Sanusi II on the Sallah durbar issue after Emir Aminu Ado Bayero had earlier requested approval to do the same.
