Kano State Government has approved N1.6 billion for the second phase of mass wedding aimed at supporting widows and widowers across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the approval as part of his administration’s effort to promote social welfare, restore the dignity of marriage, and support men and women seeking to settle down, especially those who have lost their spouses.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, disclosed this shortly after the 32nd State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Yusuf.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the council also approved over N45.6 billion for various projects, including the provision of social amenities such as potable water, electricity, road construction, educational development, humanitarian services, and security improvement across the state.
The Commissioner explained that the mass wedding initiative includes the provision of bridal houses, payment of dowries, and organization of wedding ceremonies for eligible couples, all under the supervision of the Kano State Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Wayya further stated that the aim of the programme is to reduce the number of widows and unmarried individuals in the state while strengthening family ties and promoting peaceful coexistence among residents.
He urged beneficiaries to be honest and responsible, and to make good use of the opportunity to build stable and successful marriages.
