Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday unveiled a N1.36 trillion budget proposal for 2026 to the Kano State House of Assembly, branding it the Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth, and Sustainable Development. The plan underscores the administration’s commitment to boosting business, investment, and economic opportunities across the state.
Addressing lawmakers, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the budget is structured to accelerate capital projects, expand social services, and enhance human capital, with a clear eye on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and creating an enabling environment for business growth.
The proposal earmarks N934.6 billion (68%) for capital expenditure and N433.4 billion (32%) for recurrent spending, signaling the government’s focus on long-term development and private sector engagement. Yusuf highlighted that more than 80% of his campaign promises have been fulfilled, with 2026 prioritizing the completion of the Urban Renewal Project, housing schemes, and support for SMEs along the AKK Gas Pipeline corridor.
Governor Yusuf noted that the 2025 budget recorded a 75% implementation rate, achieving major milestones across education, health, infrastructure, and agriculture.
However, the governor said, for 2026, the largest budget allocations are for education (N405.3 billion, 30%), infrastructure (N346.2 billion, 25%), and health (N212.2 billion, 16%), with additional support for agriculture, commerce, water supply, environment, and youth development, all aimed at stimulating economic growth and attracting investment.
Governor Yusuf urged the House of Assembly to fast-track the budget’s approval, describing it as a blueprint to deepen reforms, consolidate gains, and safeguard Kano’s economic future. He thanked public servants, development partners, MDAs, and residents for their continued support of the state’s business-friendly transformation agenda.
