Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has spearheaded a large-scale prayer gathering, mobilizing 4,444 Qur’anic reciters alongside leading Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, and senior government officials to seek divine intervention amid a surge in insecurity across the state.
The event, held at Government House, comes in response to escalating bandit attacks in Kano’s northern regions, including the recent kidnapping of 15 people and the killing of a woman, which have heightened concerns among communities and authorities.
Speaking at the session, Governor Yusuf said the prayers were intended to restore peace and protect residents from enemies of the state. He urged citizens to complement the government’s efforts with personal prayers, particularly during late-night hours, stressing that security challenges respect no political affiliation or social class.
Governor Yusuf also praised security agencies for their cooperation, sacrifice, and collaborative efforts with the state government, emphasising that maintaining public safety remains a top priority.
The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and reassuring for communities affected by banditry. He called on all residents to support the government’s interventions in a spirit of unity.
Prominent Islamic leaders, including Sheikh Tijjani Bala Kalarawi, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Sani Ashir, Sheikh Adam Abba Koki, Sheikh Bazallah, Sheikh Nasir Kabara, Sheikh Abdullahi Uwaisu Madabo, Sheikh Dr. Mujitaba Abdulkadir Bauchi, and Gwani Lawi Gwani, among many others.
The prayer rally, one of the largest organised gatherings under the Yusuf administration in its fight against the rising insurgence bedevilling the state recently.
