Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has launched an initiative to distribute free school uniforms to 796,092 pupils across 7,092 public schools in the state in order to alleviate the parents’ burden.
Speaking at the launching in Kano on Tuesday, the governor explained that the initiative was to promote education and alleviate financial burdens of families struggling to meet their children’s education needs.
He emphasized the importance of education, urging parents and guardians in the state to ensure that their children attended school regularly.
He said the gesture would also boost the pupils’ morale while encouraging them to focus on their studies and improve the teaching and learning process.
“The government’s commitment to quality education is evident in our efforts to train and retain personnel, as well as provide timely supplies of teaching and learning materials.
“The distribution exercise is part of the administration’s efforts to address the issue of out-of-school children in the state,” Yusuf said.
Speaking also, the state Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda commended teachers for their efforts in reciprocating the government’s commitment to the provision of quality education in the state.
He said that by prioritizing education, the state government aimed to “empower the next generation with the tools they needed to succeed and contribute positively to the society.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the launching of the initiative marked a significant step towards the promotion of education and supporting families in the state.
