A Coalition of Ulama and Islamic Organisations in Kano State have commended security agencies for upholding the rule of law in the ongoing Kano emirate leadership tussle.
The clerics revealed this in a statement signed by its Secretary Dr Saidu Ahmad Dukawa and issued to journalists in Kano on Monday.
The clerics’ statement is coming in the heat of a power tussle between the Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi, who was reinstated as the monarch after the sack of the former on Thursday.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday abolished the emirates of Gaya, Rano, Bichi and Karaye, and reappointed Mr Sanusi as the new monarch.
The statement cautioned the contending parties to tread carefully not to plunge the state into an unavoidable social unrest.
“We are appealing to all stakeholders to refrain from actions and inactions that would precipitate violence in our dear state,” the statement said.
“We appeal to the Kano State Government and the Federal Government to promote peaceful coexistence by ensuring justice and adherence to the rule of law,” the clerics said.
The coalition of religious groups and clerics urged the citizens of Kano to intensify prayers for peace, justice and tranquillity to prevail in the state.
“We emphasise the importance of respecting the rule of law and the need for all arms of government to work together in harmony to ensure peace, stability, and progress in the state. Let us work together to build a brighter future for the people of Kano State, where justice, peace, and prosperity reign supreme and where the rights and dignity of all citizens are upheld and respected,” the clerics said.
