In a renewed push to tighten security across Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has authorised the creation of a dedicated task force to police motor parks and other high-traffic public areas.
The directive, announced in a statement on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, underscores the government’s resolve to block criminal networks from exploiting busy transit points and communal spaces.
According to the statement, the initiative targets key locations within Kano’s metropolitan corridor, particularly major entry and exit routes, which officials say are vulnerable due to heavy daily movement of people. Motor parks, in particular, have been flagged as sensitive zones following recent security incidents, including the arrest of suspected criminals at the Kofar Ruwa Motor Park.
The newly formed task force will deploy enhanced surveillance measures, step up intelligence gathering and conduct coordinated operations aimed at detecting and disrupting criminal activity. Its scope will also extend beyond motor parks to cover related hotspots such as fuel stations and other public places that attract large, transient crowds.
Governor Yusuf said the strategy is designed to prevent security breaches before they escalate into serious threats, while also strengthening cooperation among security agencies operating in the state.
