A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered the state’s Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage of two popular TikTokers, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, within 60 days following their involvement in viral videos deemed indecent by state authorities.
The directive came after the duo appeared in multiple social media clips that, according to the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board, contained “immoral and seductive scenes” that contravene the cultural and religious values of the state.
Presiding over the case on Monday, Magistrate Halima Wali instructed the Hisbah Board to ensure the marriage is conducted within the given period, warning that any delay would be treated as contempt of court. The court also mandated the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the execution of the marriage order and ensure full compliance.
21st Century Chronicle gathered that both TikTokers were recently arraigned for producing and circulating obscene content on social media. Mai Wushirya had earlier been remanded in a correctional facility after videos of him engaging in intimate acts with Yar Guda surfaced online.
The Censorship Board maintained that the videos violated existing laws in Kano that prohibit the creation and distribution of sexually explicit or indecent material. It was reliably gathered that after her appearance before the court when summoned, Yar Guda said she is willing to marry Maiwushirya as he claimed he is ready to marry her before the court. It was also revealed that Yar Guda has given a condition that she will marry him only when he proved that he has a house of his own.
The case has generated widespread debate across social media, as many saw the court’s judgement as befitting to the TikTokers.
