Confusion has emerged over the organisation of the 2026 Sallah Durbar in Kano following conflicting positions by government officials and the two existing emirs in the state.
Recently, Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero sent a letter to Kano State Police Command informing the authorities of his planned Sallah durbar. In response, a senior government official, the Special Adviser to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Emirates and Chieftain Affairs, Professor Tijjani Muhammad Naniya, refuted that and confirmed that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II would lead the Sallah durbar.
However, in contrast, the state Commissioner for Information Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, then issued a statement, cautioning that the Sallah durnar issue remains before the court and warned against premature claims by either party.
It can be recalled that ever since the notification correspondence was sent to the police, the durbar issue became a heated point of discussion in the state, generating a tense situation within the state polity.
Similarly, Muhammad Sanusi II, who occupies the main palace, is yet to make any official statement on the event as the Sallah durbar remains an unresolved issue in the state.
