The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the deployment of non-sensitive election materials to Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas ahead of the June 20 House of Representatives by-election.
The election is being conducted to fill the vacant seat following the death of the constituency’s representative, Muhammad Hassan.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kano State, Abdul M. Zango, disclosed this on Tuesday after a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held at the Kano State Police Command headquarters.
Zango said the commission had finalized key preparations for the poll, noting that all non-sensitive materials had already been delivered to the affected local government areas. He added that Electoral Officers had also communicated their concerns to security agencies.
The REC expressed confidence in the security arrangements put in place, stressing that the commission was working closely with relevant agencies to ensure a peaceful, free and credible election. According to him, security agencies successfully supported the recent Kano Municipal and Ungogo elections, which were conducted without any reported bad incident.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Isa Mani, who represented the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said security agencies had reviewed their operational strategies and were fully prepared for the exercise.
