The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new deputy governor of the state after successfully passing legislative screening processes.
The decision followed the presentation and adoption of a report by the ad hoc committee set by the Assembly, during a plenary session, which was presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
While presenting the report, the committee chairman and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, stated that Garo’s nomination came in the wake of the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He noted that the screening was conducted in accordance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers the Assembly to approve a nominee to fill a vacant deputy governorship position.
According to the committee, Garo has gone through a thorough screening exercise that included detailed questioning on his academic qualifications, professional background, grasp of governance issues, and plans for the state.
He explained that Garo’s credentials were also carefully verified as required. Adding that the committee further observed that the nominee demonstrated a strong understanding of the duties of the office and outlined a practical vision to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to him, based on the committee’s assessment, the committee recommended his confirmation.
The motion was subsequently adopted by the House.
Based on the committee’s recommendations,Speaker Falgore put the recommendation to a voice vote, and lawmakers unanimously endorsed the nomination, thereby confirming Garo as the new deputy governor of Kano State.
