Kano state government said on Thursday that it has approved the release of N647. 6 million for the settlement of outstanding registration fees to the National Examination Council (NECO), National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) and the National Board for Technical Education (NABTEB).
The commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba who disclosed this on Thursday in Kano, said the approval was given during the state executive council meeting.
21st Century Chronicle had exclusively reported that NECO withheld the May/June 2019/2020 examination results of Zamfara, Kano, Katsina and Niger states more than a month after it was released.
The examination body released the results of 1,209,992 candidates that wrote the examination across the country on January 13, but withheld those of thousands of public schools’ students of the affected states over multi billion naira debts.
The report detailed the amount owed the examination body by the affected states and the number of candidates involved.
Commissioner for education, Mohammed Sanusi Duru, had told our reporter that the debt obligation was jointly shared by the state and local government, the state government had gone ahead to pay the sum of N50 million, while working towards remitting the balance.
However, the commissioner for information said with the council approval of the amount, the lingering crisis over non release of results would be rested.
