President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday denied endorsing the Ahmad Haruna Danzago faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano state.
This is coming hours after Mr Danzago met the president at the Presidential Villa on Saturday.
The Presidency disclosed this in a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Saturday.
“The Presidency wishes to counter a public statement by one of the factions of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, that they have received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement said.
“This is blatantly untrue. This cannot happen when matters are awaiting adjudication by the courts.
“To be clear on this one, President Buhari has not endorsed any faction.”
The statement said Buhari’s support is for the All Progressives Congress as a party united and strong, and not of any faction.
The ruling party in Kano has been factionalised between Abdullahi Abbas, who is supported by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and Danzago backed by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator Barau Jibrin and House of Reps member Sha’aban Shara
