The Chairman of Kano State Film and Publishing Board says it effected the arrest of a popular Kannywood film maker, Mu’azzam Idi Yari, for breaching the rules and regulation of firm making in the state.
Chairman of the board, Alhaji Isma’il Na’abba said this on Monday.
Yari was arrested on Thursday by the police and arraigned in court for filming a movie in Kano without the permission of the board.
Na’abba statement came following criticisms by some artists, Falalu Daurayi, Baban Chinedu, Ummah Shehu, Abdul Maikwashewa, Nura Inuwa, over the arrest of their colleague. They describe the arrest as politically motivated.
Baban Chinedu had published on his Instagram page the copy of application to the board which he said dated December 29, 2020.
But Na’abba said nobody in the film making industry was greater than the board, and any artist found contravening the law would be sanctioned accordingly.
“Whoever violates the law will be punished. Film makers and producers should understand that non-compliance with this law attracts some punishment. We will not spare anyone that insists he/she will not follow the law,” he said.
