The Kaduna State Government has declared an end to what it described as oppressive governance practices, including arbitrary demolitions, mass sacking and policies that instilled fear among the citizens.

The Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, made the declaration during an advocacy visit to Vision FM and Maria FM on Friday in Kaduna.

Maiyaki said the administration of Gov. Uba Sani had embraced a new governance direction anchored on peace, unity and the welfare of the people.

He said, “The era of demolishing houses, arbitrary sacking of workers and intimidating our people is over,” he said.

“Gov. Uba Sani is charting a new path rooted in peace, development and respect for the people.”

Maiyaki urged media organisations to strengthen their partnership with government by seeking clarifications on public issues and helping to curb misinformation.

The commissioner said the commitment to openness informed the decision of Sani to reestablish the Ministry of Information, which had been scrapped by the previous administration for nearly 10 years.

Maiyaki highlighted the Kaduna Peace Model as a major plank of the administration’s new policy direction

He said that the framework had helped restore calm to areas previously affected by banditry and kidnapping, particularly Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kajuru, Kauru, Kachia and Giwa LGAs.

“The Kaduna Peace Model is delivering tangible results.

“We need the media to amplify these successes and sustain the gains,” he added.

At Vision FM, the Head of Administration, Malam Abdulhamid Idris, assured the commissioner of the station’s readiness to work closely with government in the interest of the public.

In his remarks at Maria FM, a faith-based station, the Director, Rev. Fr. Joseph Gwandu, commended the engagement and pledged continued support for peace-driven communication.

Maiyaki also reiterated during earlier engagements with NTA Kaduna, FRCN Kaduna, Nagarta Radio, Liberty FM, DITV Kaduna, Hyai FM, Freedom FM and Hamada FM that the administration of Sani remained open, responsive and committed to transparency.

He said the government would continue to prioritise peacebuilding and stability as part of efforts to ensure a safer and more united Kaduna State.
